The ISA Lehigh Valley Section invites you to ...
ISA18: New Standard on Alarm Management
A Journey, not a Destination
Sponsored by exida
With production running ever closer to equipment and facility operating limits, the importance of alarm management has never been greater. Poor alarm management is one of the leading causes of unplanned downtime, contributing to over $20B in lost production every year. It also has been a leading contributor to some of the worst industrial accidents on record (Three Mile Island, Bhopal, Milford Haven Refinery, Texas City). Help has arrived in the form of the new ISA-18.2 standard -“Management of Alarm Systems for the Process Industries”, which provides a framework for the successful design, implementation, operation, and management of alarm systems in a process plant. Since alarm management is a continuous activity, not a “once and done” activity, the standard takes a lifecycle approach (i.e. it is a journey and not a destination). This presentation will provide an overview of the new standard and will discuss how it will impact the process automation community.
